SafeStat The May 6, 2008 SafeStat release and Inspection Selection System-D (ISS-D) results are now available in SafeStat Online for all Interstate and Intrastate carriers. This release is based on data as of April 25, 2008. NAFTA Safety Stats The NAFTA Safety Stats reports have been updated using the March 28, 2008 MCMIS data snapshot. This update includes motor carrier census, roadside inspection, traffic enforcement, compliance review, and crash data up to March 28, 2008. The US and Mexican Carrier Report has also been updated. Passenger Carrier Safety The May 6, 2008 Passenger Carrier Safety release is now available. This release is based on the updated SafeStat results using data as of April 25, 2008. FMCSA Tools Driver Information Resource* The May 6, 2008 Driver Information Resource (DIR) data release is now available. This release is based on the April 25, 2008 MCMIS data snapshot. The DIR provides a web-based lookup capability that allows FMCSA and State enforcement personnel to search, via a secure password, a driver’s crash and inspection history by driver name, commercial driver license number or carrier identification information. *The DIR is available on a secure area of the A&I Online and can only be accessed by authorized FMCSA and State Enforcement users. Crash Statistics All reports available through the State Profiles have been updated with 2007 State-reported crash data from the March 28, 2008 Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS) data snapshot. State Profiles now include reports for 2003-2007. These reports present summarized crash statistics by State for large trucks, buses, and large trucks and buses involved in fatal and non-fatal crashes that occurred in the United States. (The 2007 Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) data will be added when it becomes available later this calendar year.) The About Statistics section has been updated with the quarterly release of State Crash Records (formerly called "Safety Plan Crash Data"). The data have been updated based on the March 28, 2008 MCMIS data snapshot. A file is generated for each State and it contains fatal and non-fatal crash records reported by the States to MCMIS and fatal crash records from the FARS. Each file now contains MCMIS records from 2002 – 2008 and FARS records from 2002 – 2006. The data are available on a secure area of the A&I Online website and can only be accessed by authorized FMCSA and State Enforcement users. The Crash Reporting Status — Quarterly Updated Reports, located in the National Profiles section, have been updated for the years 2003–2008 from the March 28, 2008 MCMIS data snapshot. These reports provide summarized statistics on the National Governors' Association (NGA) reportable crash records for each service center and State. These reports are available on a secure area of the A&I Online website and can only be accessed by authorized FMCSA and State Enforcement users. Data Quality FARS/MCMIS Matching* The National and State FARS/MCMIS Matching Tool results have been updated to reflect matching results using the March 28, 2008 MCMIS data snapshot. This tool provides States with crash information that can be used to reconcile differences between the FARS and MCMIS databases. Records are presented in sets as "matched," "potentially matched," and "not matched". *The reports are available on a secure area of the A&I Online website and can only be accessed by authorized FMCSA and State Enforcement users. .

Improvement Tools A SAFETYNET Best Practices document is now available in the Improvement Tools Area. The purpose of the document is to help States optimize their use of SAFETYNET by providing Best Practices and tips for implementing these practices to improve the quality of State-reported safety data. (Other issues that may affect data quality, such as data extraction or system technical problems, are beyond the scope of this document.)

The mapping application, located in the State Profiles area, allows users to dynamically generate, display, print, and download maps and tables with crash and roadside inspection data. The mapping toolbar includes tools that allow the user to zoom in, zoom out, center, and view the entire US map. Several maps have been added that show roadside inspection activity for the last three years in addition to the five years of crash data. *This mapping tool is also available in the CVSP Toolkit area of the FMCSA Tools module. The reports do not include all 2007 activity since all reports were generated from a MCMIS snapshot that was taken prior to the end of the year. Complete reports will be available in the near future based on a March, 2008 snapshot of the MCMIS data.
Crash Statistics National Profiles includes one new report in the National Profile Reports area and one new and one updated report in the State Comparison area. The 2006 Large Truck Crash Facts Report * was added to the National Profile Reports area under Crash Facts. It contains descriptive statistics about fatal, injury, and property damage-only crashes involving large trucks in 2006. Select crash statistics on passenger vehicles are also presented for comparison purposes. The State Level Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Fatality Rate per 100 Million Truck and Bus Vehicle Miles Traveled, 2001-2006 report was added to the State Comparison area. It provides a commercial motor vehicle fatality rate for each State using Truck and Bus vehicle miles traveled. The Fatality Rate figures represent Fatalities per 100 Million Truck and Bus Vehicle Miles Traveled. The State Level Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Fatality Rate per 100 Million Total Vehicle Miles Traveled, 2001-2006 report was added to the State Comparison area. It provides a commercial motor vehicle fatality rate for each State using total vehicle miles traveled. The title of this report was revised to depict the type of fatality rate calculated. This report was formerly named "The Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Fatality Rate Per 100 Million Vehicle Miles Traveled." *This report is also available in the Analysis Results and Reports module of the A&I Online website.
